Why did we create Maptimize?
Because we needed it for ourselves !
We faced a major optimization and readability issue when created Who's Web , a geo-localized directory service for Web experts.
When a search on Google Maps returned a map with more than 100 markers, the display time slowed dramatically and the interface became cluttered with markers stacked one on top of the other.
To solve this problem we developed an algorithm that would enable the markers to be clustered together into logical groups. This resulted in exponentially improved response times. The markers were displayed faster, and the interface became less jumbled and significantly more readable.
Realizing that we had pioneered a revolutionary new way to solve this type of problem, we decided to share our expertise with the rest of the world. Thus Maptimize was born. Initially we released Maptimize as a plug-in with an API to enable others developers to offer better geo-localized solutions.
From Good to Great.
The feedback following the release of the beta version of this clustering system has been outstanding and very positive.
But...
Developers requested more functionality. In particular they wanted a category system, an administrative division, a HTML content integration
We listened carefully to the insightful feedback and worked hard on implementing the ideas and suggestions therein so that the system could be more powerful and robust. In short do more, be better.

We will offer these new functionalities in our next release. Stay tuned!
Very soon Maptimize will become more than a simple clustering plug-in.

Founder of Xilinus, and creator of maptimize project. Before developping web applications, he worked for six years in France and USA for InfoTerra (previously named ISTAR) an company specialized in high-resolution imagery. Some pixels of Google Maps Satelitte view may be has been computed by algorithms he wrote.
Samuel works on Maptimize clustering engine and developers API. Passionate by Mathematics and dynamic languages, he spends some of his spare time contributing to the Prototype JavaScript framework and developing web apps with Ruby on Rails.
Interactive designer with 11 years experience, Vincent is always searching the most simple and elegant solution.
